The Internet Society’s key initiatives target the critical issues that affect all aspects of Internet development and growth. They embody Internet Society’s philosophy that the Internet is for everyone and they provide the organization with a solid foundation from which to positively influence standards development, access, business practices, and government policies.
FOCUS
The Internet Society is the only international organization with a volunteer network of Chapters that span the globe who focus on work in the area where technology, policy and education intersect. It is the largest single network of people that work in this area. That’s unique!
ADVOCACY
The Internet Society speaks out on issues that affect the future of the Internet. Through it’s Chapters and members it is engaged in international and in-country policy debate on issues that affect the future of the Internet, whether it is migration to the next generation of the Internet protocol, policies to regulate contact, access and privacy and much more!
INFLUENCE
Together our voice is stronger! Your local Chapter will be working hard on key issues relevant to the local community or economy. Participating in the debate, making your voice heard through discussions, and giving support to reinforce Internet Society’s principles will help the Internet Society create positive change around the world. Your voice counts!
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Some local Chapters focus on training and skills development. Others provide access for underserved communities, like those in rural areas, or disadvantage through poor vision or hearing. Check out if your local Chapter is one of them.
NETWORKING
Network with other like-minded individuals who care about the future of the Internet. Meet them face-to-face at events organized by your Chapter. Become part of an international network of over 40,000 members!
JOIN CAMPAIGNS
Whether it is technical or policy related, by joining a Chapter you will have the opportunity to join campaigns which address real issues locally, whether it is a proposed policy which affects the rights of Internet users or technical issues which affect the ability of the Internet to grow and to scale.
PROGRAMS The Internet Society through its Chapters and centrally offers many programmes for members to participate in. Take for example, the Next Generation Leaders programme which helps identify tomorrow Internet Leaders. Ask your local Chapter for details or send email to mailto:leaders@isoc.org.
IMPLEMENT
Have a project idea, which would advance the goals of the Internet Society through your local Chapter? If so, our Community Grants program may be for you. Learn more about the program by checking out the past projects from around the world, and the grantee blog.
STAY INFORMED
There are many ways to stay informed and learn about where and how the Internet Society is making an impact. You can opt to receive the Internet Society newsletter or simply visit the Internet Society’s website for the latest monthly copy.
